What Can I Add to My Tap Water to Make it Taste Better?

by V Rajagopalan

What can I add to my tap water to make it taste better? Well there are many things a person can add to try and mask the unpleasant flavour of their liquid supply, which may come from a reservoir or the local supply dam.

Cordial, coffee, tea can be added but this does not really get rid of the taste underneath. If you are a country person on a tank and you are visiting someone in town, then you can immediately notice the difference.

You might think to yourself about putting in a tank, a very good idea except where town water has contaminants, so does a tank. Tanks tastes much nicer generally because chlorine is not used, but tanks can still harbour contamination just like reservoir water. This happens from bird droppings on the roof of the house as well as dirt and other airborne particles. You might think boiling it would fix that, it will but it will then taste just like it has been boiled.

One way to help solve this problem is to install a water filter. In doing this you might find that it will taste so much better. Filters can remove chemicals like chlorine, volatile organic substances and others. They can also remove bacteria and nasties such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. When it is filtered effectively, you will notice a change in the taste of it.

But to do this you need to purchase the right filter that will suit your needs. There are quite a few on the market and these can be found on the internet by going to these filters then clicking on the websites. If you need to know where they are in your local area then a check of the phone book under the same name will find them for you, otherwise visit the places in your nearest town which sell them and talk to one of the sales persons who has experience and knowledge on these things.

It is probably a good idea to do a little research yourself, so you have an understanding of what you might be looking for, as there can be sales people who know what they are talking about, and those who only think they know. Ask questions, go into detail and you will probably get exactly what you are looking for in a filter.

These filters will make your tap water taste better. And the benefit of this is you do not need to keep buying additives to add for a better taste.
